My car was purchased and serviced exclusively at FM West in Natick.

I now need to replace an ABS controller unit (expensive) along with getting regular maintenance.

I'm pretty fussy.  I've been dissatisfied with Chambers and BMW Peabody is very inconvenient for me.

Are there places close in to Boston that members feel comfortable recommending?  While I'm all for saving $ I'd be willing to pay more for competence and experience.  Its very hard to get a consistent read on recommendations from looking at prior posts or going to YELP on the Internet.

Thanks!

Import Autowerks in Braintree! Talk to Alvin... He is a former Master Tech from BMW Gallery in Norwood. His business is about 80% Bimmers... His rates are low and he won't do a job if it is not necessary..Also very trusting... last week, I was nearing my credit limit on my CC and he said to pay when I was in better financial shape... Now, I'm not sure if he does that with everyone, but it was certainly appreciated.

I am also biased in this situation as I currently working as a weekend apprentice to learn how to work on my own Bimmers... I've gutted an E39 chassis that had flood damage, done a cooling flush, full brake jobs, oil changes, wheel balancing, sway bar installs etc...

I am hoping to learn how to do more suspension work too. In any case, they are great guys and they support the local Boston chapter.. They are hosting an Undercarraige event on October 9th for the first 20 guys who sign up...

In any case, there are many great service shops for Bimmers in the greater Boston area, and you did the right thing to come here! I wish you the best... Feel free to call Alvin at 781 818 3830...or swing by to chat..

Also, I drive an E39 too and my friend lives in Millbury and he has an E39 530 from 2002 too. Let me know if you want to meet up!

Regards,

Eric

I've been very satisfied with Bavarian Performance Group in Winchester. They are exclusively BMW/Mini with BMW trained mechanics. A small shop with low overhead reflected in their hourly rates. They modify and race BMWs as well, so are well acquiainted with performance issues. Very open and up-front about your options and costs.
