Waited too long to buy snow tires for the new ride (no one told me people actually sell out of snow tires this early in the year!), and trying to track down some alternatives.  I've decided the downsize from my stock 18" wheels to a 17" wheel makes sense, so looking for winter 'package'.

Anyone heard of this guy in Ottawa, ON, Canada?  He seems to have a supply:

Also, looking at an eBay auction for this package, but not sure the fitment would work for the M3, since the manual recommends 225/50-17's, and these are 205/50-17's:

Any recommendations would be appreciated, since I need to pull the trigger quick.

205 would actually be a better snow tire for you. The eBay package is good if the wheels would clear the brakes, which they should.

Thanks, I thought so too (with the recommendation from several that narrower tires are better in the snow), but wasn't sure it was a good choice, since that option didn't appear on TireRack.com website.  Do you know of any ultimate guide out there that can confirm the fit of the narrower tires?

Not at all sure why the narrow tires are a concern at all? What would they not "fit"? As long as the tire fit a rim, they are fine. And they definitely fit a rim as shown in pics.

Bit if you buy a separate tire, the fit for a rim is simple to calculate. Take teh width of teh tire in mm. Let's say it's 245 to make it simple. That is exactly 10". A good wheel would be 10" wide +/- about 2". In other words 8-12" wide wheels are fine.

The real "fit" concern is with woider tire - they might rub either the fender or shock or both. Narrower tires, if they are not taller than wide ones, are no problem.

PS. Just thought of something. Due to the different overall diameter of these narrow tires there will be a slight speedometer error. Never bothered me, but you'll want to make sure you know it's there.

PPS. A friend of mine runs 18" in the summer and 17" in the winter on his '03 M3. He also has OEM 19" wheel, but is not using them (they are for sale, but I would nto recommend them for winter tires).
