Since all BMW's are going with run flats, I am going to find another car. These tires SUCK! They also eliminate the possibility of customizing my car in terms of wheels and tire sizes. BMW has decided what is appropiate,,, and I have driven these awful tires on a track...they suck!!! What is BMW doing??? My lease is uo soon and I am certainly NOT going to get another BMW.

This has been debated to death in Roundel.

I'm afraid I don't understand why you are limited in tire and wheel choice. Put your favorite tires on your favorite wheels. Sell you OEM wheels with the run flats (although after having run on the track, who know how much tread is left ).

My M Coupe does not have a spare, but rather a can of goo and a 12 volt inflater. I've never used it, although I've had be rescued once (only 20 miles from home) and I got lucky once (puncture was a slow leak, and made it to a tire shop). Some people do put a jack and "donut" tire in the trunk. I have AAA+ which gives me good towing. I'm sure I can find some sort of non-matching tire at the local tire shop to get me home.

I too think the extra weight and space for a full-size spare is worth it, but we are in the minority. The truth is that most people don't want to replace a flat tire on the side of the road.

As an aside, if you like rear wheel drive and manual transmissions, you may not find as much choice in cars as there once was. BMWs also seem engineered with mechanical service in mind -- at least more so that some other cars. I hate, hate, hate working my my wife's Audi, for example.

Guess that's why I also have a Honda S2K... that remains true to sports cars and choices. I don't want to compromise and BMW is clearly forcing us to compromise. What ever happened to the 2002?

Funny part is I have a manual transmission and when I had an issue with it, there was not another stick shift on the lot to compare with... Very telling about BMW direction and customers.. just another Lexus/Infinity/Acura/God forbid american car...and then there is the tech part which lags the competition... Why on earth do I want to own/lease a current BMW?

Perhaps you don't. There are a lot of nice cars these days. It's all a matter of priorities and what you want out of a car. If you are picky about many different aspects of your vehicle, then it's much harder to find exactly what you want. The things that bother you (run-flats, technology) don't matter at all to me. The things that are important to me (RWD, manual transmission, sweet motor, composed suspension, good driving position) may not matter as much to you.

What doesn't make sense is to rage against that which you can't control. I simply pick from those companies that make cars that I like. I'm not going to buy a Lotus Elise and then bitch about my aching bones.

Rejoice in the fantastic range of cars available today -- BMW and otherwise.

Oh, and rejoice in the BMW club. I know of no other marque club that has as broad a range of benefits, programs, and events and that welcomes owners of all marques of cars. Yes, we have lots of member that permanently or temporarily don't own BMWs.

Once you get the venom out of your system, please do tell us what your next 4-door car will be. The preponderance of choice is mind-boggling, eh?

No, I don't like the direction that BMW has taken in the last 20+ years. But that's the industry direction and that's what customers seem to want.

I can also tell you what happened to 2002s. Most of them rusted out and those that did not would not even come close to meeting safety standards today. Nor would you want to drive a 2002 on daily basis. Nor S2000 for that matter.

Again, I'll take a 2002 with round tail lights over a current 7-series any day, but i drive a coil-over suspended CSP car on the street. Most others don't.
