Looks like my STi is done for. :( I pulled the IC off to inspect and low and behold oil everywhere! We decided to do a compression test, where one of the cylinders had only 30psi. Needless to say the car now will need at least a short block. It's now up for sale, so now I'll have to co-drive some ones car.....hint hint Sosik. :)

yeah, I'd like to get time to mess with my sways and stuff, but that takes too long.

I guess I am signed up for next event I was getting confused. The down side is that I my car is acting funny. I'm haivng oil problems.....which means possibly bad turbo. :( I'm gonna look the car over this weekend and determine what the problem is and what I need to get to fix it. Right now I'm just hoping a filter is loose or I'm just burning a little more oil over all.

Cross your fingers boys(Worse case is I'd need to do internals, best case is just the filters loose!!)

Prep as in making suspension adjustments and stuff? Yeah that would be tough, but that's what the test and tune events are for.

It was definatly a good time to learn where the threshold of the cars are. I just wish I had more time to prep between runs, but that kills turn around time. Gotta keep it quick like the past events. I was still impressed at how short of a day it was despite the rain!!

We wound up at the Pizza place, right around the corner from J.P O'Hanlon's.. They had a decent selection on tap. About 20 people were there. Decent alternative for when our normal haunt is geschlossen.

I bet there was more than a few who did that. I cleared the middle six pack, going backwards, at close to 60mph. :)

I like AXing in the rain (don't like standing in it though).. There's hardly a better medium than to learn high performance car control in... :smooooth:

I think you must be talking about the Miata. I was corner boss 7 in run group 2 and I still have no idea how that Miata did not hit the timing light. The cones didn't even stop flying by the time I called in to the tent to have them stop sending cars lol. He managed to hit 5 cones behind the light and all three cones in front of the light without touching the timing light. Is that even possible? :P

I usually love the rain, but when you're trying to tune a Jeep and autoX a Jeep you really don't need any other devices to make your day more difficult. It was still fun as usual though.:hehe:

Well, i didnt see you stopped. I saw you moving.... VERY SLOWLY. You were in front of me for quite some time, maybe 1/3 of the course. You were probably checking your make up, brushing your hair, cause you looked like a sunday driver.

Anyway, when you get red flagged, or have to stop for a down cone, or whatever the reason, GO FAST to the finish, because there is probably someone coming up behind you. I normally would have stopped, but the run was going fairly well and i wanted to complete it.

Steve- Don't worry It's all good:) When i read what you wrote it just made me smile that's about it. We can thank Eric for giving me those tires because if he didn't give me them I would really be sliding off course. Before Eric offered to give me the Kuhmos I had AS Avon 205-35's up front and AS 235-45 Sumitomo HTR's in the rear. My situation would have been much worse if Eric didn't step in. It was in fact a fun day=)

Guys....

I take personal responsibility for Dylan's tires... As some of you guys know... I had some 33 tires/wheels in my garage before I decided to get the Direzzas... The wife said that the only way I could get the new tires was to get rid of 3 sets of tires ASAP!!!

So I gave the 4 of the tires to Dylan (235/40/17) - I figured they still had 8-9/32nds of an inch all around and were decent tires back in 2005 from my E36 328is and were "ultra high performance" summer tires that would be better than his All-seasons...

In any case, next time I'm cleaning out the garage to get new Direzzas - I'll send the old ones Dylan's way...

All I know is the next rain event I'll be strapping a block under my gas pedal so I can stay out of boost! :w00t: Ice was a good way to describe it at times. It made it interesting and fun but I do prefer a dry track. I've never experienced a car spin around so fast before... good times!

Here is my first run, and only dry run. It was horrible. I look like it's my first day.... Wish i took that course walk a little more seriously. This is a 72.35. There was an easy 2 to 3 more seconds out there....

Here is what happened to be my fastest wet run. This was not one of those times when it partially dried out. I had one afternoon shot at that, and screwed it up. This was my last run. Not very good at that. 77.56

Still a good time for your first run. I think the first couple of cars got an entirely dry run. This was just starting to sprinkle so it was probably a little slick with the oils and such coming up from the tarmac. You were on the limiter hard a couple of times. I was into 3rd in my afternoon sessions which means this course would have been very fast if it were dry.

Hey Dylan,

it's all good, I didn't mean to come across negatively. What you were doing definitely looked fun, overzealous is right. It did make me nervous the way you were consistently tossing your car around, but you did hold it together, so maybe I was unfair for picking you out :D There were a few other cars that came closer to taking out corner workers in corners 4/5 than you.

I know one of my buddies did a full 360 on the course, and a few other guys I know got their cars into huge, completely uncontrollable slides: it was a fun day :)

Did they say what kinda car it was Eric?? I'm betting it was some fool driving that black STi.......probably right before that sweeper!!

You should have been along for the ride Eric. :P Only embryologist can go through gates and do a full 360 and keep an STi under control. I actually had to laugh when Dan (201 mini) came over afterwards to fins out who it was. LOL.

I don't know "DK", but it was interesting wathing him go around the course. I was a bit nervous when he came around certain corners, but sounds like he knew he was doing it on purpose. You gotta let the rest of us know is was all in good fun next time!

Hey Eric, my car is on jack stands atm. I had to get towed home on my way back home because my half shaft bolts backed out of the output shaft on the differential. I will be at NHMS this weekend with COMSCC so I plan on leaving my camera in until then. I should have video for you next week sometime. Maybe Jon will upload his video. Don't expect anything great because it was very slick. I had a couple of decent runs but those ended up being with a couple of cones

Very good for drifting=) I can't say they are bad though, they feel great but they just don't compare to Star Specs and other extreme performance tires. They rock the street.

Hi guys, for those of you who don't know me I'm Dylan and I have the Black 318ti. I apologize for being too "overzealous" yesterday. To be honest I had a ton of fun and when my rear end started to slide I did honestly just hold it there because it was fun. I hope I didn't make anyone too nervous because that's not what I intended and if I didn't think I could handle something yesterday I wouldn't have done it. I never spun yesterday and the most cones I hit in one run was three. However a gentleman from corner four awarded me a trophy that I hit every single run... Thank you for that cone, you're cool, and it made my day.

Dylan is a good cookie. I really don't think he was doing anything purposely dangerous. His car doesn't have the best tires and combined with a super short wheelbase, puddles and a little over-zealousness, I'm sure it wasn't his most composed piece of driving. Besides, a lot of very good and more "experienced" drivers were also spinning and nailing cones like it was their job, so I don't think its fair to try and pick him out of the large crowd of overly-ambitious drivers from yesterday. :ermm: I saw at least two cars go fully off track and one car do a triple axel. Personally, I had a blast out there and wish for rain at every event. I like how it really emphasizes any driving flaws you have and allows you to really hang the back end out (especially if your name is Andrew)! :D I have to detail the interior of my car, now that there are rain spots everywhere, but it was totally worth it.

Nope, amazingly enough everyone stayed on the tarmac as far as I know :p I was sure someone was going to fall off the tarmac on the outside of the big sweeper, I came close a few times.

Driving in the rain is fun, you just need to allow yourself to become comfortable with the car sliding all over the place. I second the point about ice racing. Really subtle throttle inputs and some slight trail-braking help to keep the car pointed about where you want to go. Smoothness helps too.

Maybe take a step back, step-down the competitiveness, and don't worry so much about taking out a bunch of cones, and you're sure to start smiling. I was able to have a controlled drift around the big sweeper a few times, it felt *awesome*.

There was some definite cone carnage yesterday, and lots of good sideways action on the course. Good times!

Well, looks like the consensus, so far, is "we had fun". I'll just keep trying to push myself beyond comfort and see where it takes me. I am far from knowing the limitations of my car and the one time I made a concerted effort NOT to lift off the gas yesterday my rear tires just spun like I was on ice.(and I was going in a straight line!) So much for that!

I love rain events. I would be perfectly happy if it rained at every event. It's the only time I can get the MINI to slide easily. Working the course is also a blast at a rain event. Lots of entertaining things happen out there.

Actually, for fairness sake, the start was changed from Renagade finish (added clamshell offsets that weren't there Saturday. But I had one and a half dry runs in the morning and the course was more fun in reverse. Funny, but true. It would have been great.

One point, though. Rain and other things that take you out of your comfort element will actually help you in a long run. We all become complacent as drivers and stop progressing. It really helps to get a different perspective, be it rain, cold or a different car. Makes you appreciate a good car in good conditions so much more and makes you push harder when everything comes together.

Yesterday was actually pretty hilarious. All of the times from the results make no sense at all because the weather was so variable. I think a couple afternoon runs were even partially dry for some. Still fun to run the course in the rain for car control skills but frustrating when you see how slow your times were. I think the difference from some of the dry morning runs to the afternoon wet runs was almost 10 seconds.

Also it would be much appreciated if anybody happens to find my keys for the M3 with a remote key fob to email me at Nickd217@rcn.com, thanks.

I gave up after my second afternoon run. Maybe 13" wide slicks had something to do with it. As the surface puddled I felt that if I kept running I would just get the course workers pi**ed at me. I made an easy turn at the end of the long runway and the car felt like it was on ice. Did a U turn to get back to the connector and decided to skip the course and just head back to the finish through the lights and end it. As it was I still clipped a few cones because the car would not respond in a puddle.

Only a few of us who had a dry run knew how much fun that course was (in the dry). It was a 100% recycled Renegade Miata course from the day before, run in the other direction. Rob and I each took a lap the day before after their event and all that was changed was the pin location in the Chicago box. Going green.

I don't really like driving in the rain either but I did have fun yesterday. I had to change my mind set and realize nothing great is going to come from it so why not have fun. I think I said " this is like blowing stuff up with firecrackers. There's no point to it but it's still fun." ;)
