How else do you explain how time on the grid and running seemed shorter than the time working the course?

The <75 second runs were definitely creating time anomalies at the sweeper. You can thank me since I piloted my cargo ship at (much) >85 seconds to stabilize the space time anomalies caused by the speedier vessels.

RE: Thanks for helping to make Autocross event 4 such a success!!
brave1heart (7/28/2010)
Not sure that you'll need extra runs for donuts - the Camaro will be doing enough donuts during the regular runs :D
Hahaha American suspension...

RE: Thanks for helping to make Autocross event 4 such a success!!

That's a good point!

RE: Thanks for helping to make Autocross event 4 such a success!!

Not sure that you'll need extra runs for donuts - the Camaro will be doing enough donuts during the regular runs :D

RE: Thanks for helping to make Autocross event 4 such a success!!

I'll be bringing my Camaro to the last two events this year most likely. We should get one of those swingarm cameras to take video of that sweeper. I have about 50 cents I can contribute towards the cost, so if everyone pitches in, we can have one in ohhhhhh, 20 years?! :P

RE: Thanks for helping to make Autocross event 4 such a success!!

<<<there will NOT be black market maps sent out to other drivers in advance>>> Darn, you just dashed all my hopes for getting new tires this year...
So everyone reading this: trailer party at Scruffy's next event :P

I motion to make that sweeper a mandatory element for every autocross event and even open it up a tad more :D We can't go faster than 60 mph but let's at least do it sideways! I also liked that offset slalom on the taxiway and especially the half-Chicago box at the end of it. Awesome course all around!
Christo

RE: Thanks for helping to make Autocross event 4 such a success!!

Setup fast , run fast, breakdown fast and scoot home. That would be the well oiled BMW Autocross Machine. Susan and I got stuck if traffic on 495 on the way home and still had tons of time left over to put things away and just sit and relax before going to dinner.

Susan opened the 2nd floor bedroom window yesterday and read most of this thread to me. When she was done she said "now will you please come down from the roof". I was in such a funk on Sunday and finally realised that it was mostly due to a lack of sleep (work related). Started to fall asleep sitting in my trailer. 2 DNFs in the AM and 1 at the start of the PM says a lot. All at the first of Rob's clam shells. DUH! Tired = no lookie ahead.

You can blame me from the start of the short taxiway all of the way through to the slalom just before the finish. You can blame Ralph and Rob for the rest, although it really was a team effort by all of us. This was the second CAD course I have done (weekend before with NCR Porsche was the first) and I set out with my cone truck and set those areas up trying for a time record almost. Ralph and Rob followed behind me doing the necessary nips and tucks required by all course designs. I had a set up map with all elements dimensioned in paces, key cone to key cone. Some of you may have noticed a four foot wide map taped to the side of my trailer with the above areas drawn in, all to correct scale. Ralph will be doing the next course design and if he gets it to me in time, (and I have time) I will draw it in CAD again. I'll let Larry and Christo know in advance so they can announce it at the drivers meeting. This will allow the three of us to review a design PDF in advance. And NO, there will NOT be black market maps sent out to other drivers in advance.:P

BTW

Sweeper was increasing radius but opened up to apx 143 foot radius after the third pointer cone.:hehe: CAD allowed me to use X Y coordinates to help make it smooth.

RE: Thanks for helping to make Autocross event 4 such a success!!

Here is my 72.4. And I thought that finishing at 3:50 pm the previous event was great :P Next event I'm in charge, I'm shooting for noon. Take that! The van is so overrated - we'll have all corner workers sprinting to their stations instead!! I am also eliminating the port-a-jons - they notoriously eat up too much time :D

That sweeper was sick! I spent a few seconds looking at the rear of my car in front of me and somehow managed to save it and kept going. On another run, I caught a perfect 4-wheel drift for about 70 feet, wow :w00t: Maybe not the fastest way around but a lot of FUN! Loved the entire course, probably my favorite this year!

RE: Thanks for helping to make Autocross event 4 such a success!!

'twas a great day, even missing my last two runs didn't put a dampener on it.

Cheers to all who made it run so smoothly.

Mark

Thanks for helping to make Autocross event 4 such a success!!

We managed to set a few efficiency records yesterday, and I think most had one of their most enjoyable events in quite some time. 93 drivers, 8 (really fun) runs, on a breezy and warm Sunday afternoon. Lot's of smiles to go around, and last car @ 2:50pm.. Wow. Totally coordination and hustling by all.

How many people loved that sweeper? I think I would have paid to get that location as a worker assignment. :)

Thanks!
