FYI,Larry says no M2000 or SA2000 helmets will be allowed this year.For those of us that don't have unlimited budgets, I found that Competition Accessories (www.compacc.com) is closing out HJC FS-3 helmets (Snell M2005) for $63.99. Ice Racing 2012

As of now (November, 2011), it seems unlikely that there will be Ice Racing in the 2011-2012 season. We lost Stan Jackson Sr. this year, and with him the driving force behind this program. Ice Racing was very popular and there will be lots of disappointed folks.

If a group of volunteers has the skills, time and energy to take over this program, please contact any board member.

Our thoughts continue to go out to the Jacksons in their time of grieving.

It was a nice reminder of our times at 31Main and JP O'Hanlon's after the autocross events - albeit in the Winter at the Ascari Cafe in Braintree.. In any case, for those of you who do want to get together with your friends from autocross/HPDEs/chapter friends.. feel free to come down to F1Boston in Braintree, MA on Sunday, Feb 26th - to hang out for the post-karting social hour.. AAA has one tow company in the area of Devens, called Tip Towing (NO JOKE).I call them on saturday around 1:00, through AAA, to pick up my Z. I am told to expect them in an hour and a half. Around 2:00 I get a call back telling me it will likely be an hour and a half longer than I was told, and to leave the keys in the car, which I express that I really don't want to do. So the event ends, still no truck, so I wheel the car outside the gate with the keys in it and then confirm once again that they are on their way.I call again at 9AM the next morning, and I'm told the car was picked up around midnight and will be on its way to me soon, if not already. Big relief. I call AAA every few hours looking for some kind of update but I'm told the same thing; that the car is possibly at the tow shop but at least its off the road.10:00 PM sunday, still no car. I call AAA again. This time I get someone on the phone who's willing to look into it a bit farther for me. They contact the company. Guess what.THE CAR WAS NEVER PICKED UP. Even 24 hours later after they lied to AAA and said it had been. No call from them to AAA or myself saying otherwise.They then make the excuse that it was because the car "appeared to be unregistered," (plate has a current sticker, updated reg and sticker for 2 months from now in the glove box along with the current one.) Would have been nice to know about that issue, but of course it was just made up anyways.So one would think it must be in the interest of both the tow company and AAA to get the car off of the street ASAP now that its sunday night and I called them saturday afternoon, and was lied to. I get no call so I assume all is well. Silly me.This morning I call Tip Towing directly and ask if they have picked it up. The person on the other end angrily replies that the car was "boxed in by snow plows," as if that weren't entirely his fault. I then try to calmly ask why he wouldn't have called me, and why he would tell AAA that it had been picked up 2 days before and give no update to anyone since. He then begins screaming into the phone incoherently and hangs up mid sentence. I go to the car, finally, today on Monday. Theres barely any snow around it. I need to find out what plow company plowed in front of Devens and send them a fruit basket or something. Just another lie by the tow company — the car is completely accessible. That is, if they remain AAA affiliated, which I'm going to try my best to change.Otherwise awesome event #8. If scruffy knew what a pointer cone was or how to properly mark a gate I'd have been faster in the morning but hey, thats the game.

Thanks all for another freekin aewsome year punting cones at Devens. And thank you to the rain for holding off until the very last run. I think everybody got their last run in the dry. I had my trailer there just to have a warm place to hang out, but also to take the car home if needed. We decided that Susan would drive and we got outta town as fast as we could. A bit of sleetish rain until we got south of the Mass pike, but nothing was sticking to the roads.Hope everybody who went to 31 Main got home OK.We have about an inch of snow on the ground, expect it all gone by the afternoon.

Autocross - Event 7

I was control for run group 1, and I just wanted to extend a thank you to the course workers. With the high wind I was preparing myself for a lot of hard to hear calls, and possibly missed calls altogether. The workers did a great job making clear concise calls, and following up when they did not get a confirmation or if I was asking for a repeat.Also I think we had only 1 single rerun due to a either a missing cone or a course worker in the way, and zero complaints about cones being out of place.It was a clear impact to how quickly we completed the event.Nice job guys! :D

Need a rule clarification for Devens

Hey guys, I'm bringing up a question that I asked about not too long ago as you will see on the list of topics. I was curious what the rule was for non members showing up at any given time of the day to come on property and watch some of the cars. Everyone told me that it wasnt a problem for anyone to come on property as long as they stopped at the gate and signed the waiver. I just read an e-mail from a freind who told me he showed up late morning during the last event and wasn't allowed on the base by whomever was at the gate and had to turn around and go home. I have a few family members who will be driving over an hour to come watch for a bit on Sunday and I just wanted to make sure there won't be a problem when they arrive? I was just reading the rules and it says that names must be put on a guest list? I am still a little confused and was hoping someone could verify this either way. Sorry to post a new topic that I already brought up:D Thanks guys see you all on Sunday.

After I had a small too-much-rain-and-too-small-brain induced bump at the Glen, a big group of people huddled around the car offering encouragement, instructions, and hands-on help. As I started to struggle to replace a tie rod, Larry Nicklas dove under the car, braving a stream of power steering fluid, and did the job for me. I had never done this before, having only watched it being done, and Larry knew exactly what to do. He got the tie rod replaced and a "good enough" alignment into the car so that I could limp home.

I want to thank club racer Vern Anderson who loaned me a new tie rod. His trailer is a like an E36 parts warehouse.

I also want to thank Joe Marko for generously offering me the use of his trailer, and to the Connecticut Chapter's Bill Mellott who loaned me a pair of front rotors when mine cracked.

One of the big advantages of driving with the Boston Chapter and BMW CCA is all the help at the paddock, should something go wrong. It would have been a painful and expensive ride home had I been with most any other club.

Is it ok for non members to arrive and spectate at Devens?

FTD went to a very well set up '95 M3 driven by Hank Wallace. Top car on street tires (9-th overall) was Jonathan Cowen's '98 BMW M3. There were 4 Mazda Miatas in the Top 10 - Mia and Tia from Cars would be proud! A PDR (Paintless Dent Removal) Tech Session will be hosted at a site near the Warwick Mall. The Dent Craft owner Matt Ligore has agreed to have a PDR Tech Session in RI. Once a date is set a Registration Page will be arranged on the Chapter Website, for sign up's. Matt has charged $65 per panel with three dents taken out. New member with questions about Saturday's Concours

Hello everyone, I am a new CCA member from Boston and I wanted to get some advice on Saturday's upcoming Concurs d’Elegance.I am lucky enough that I was able to find and purchase a 2011 1M coupe a few months ago, but I don't think it is in concours/show condition since it is my daily driver and it has a few paint chips from road debris as well as some surface scratches/swirls from a not so professional wash during its first service. Unfortunately I just have not had the time to have it detailed and I doubt it will happen by Saturday.That being said, I know there are not many 1M's around and I would love to bring it to Larz for the enthusiasts to see and so I can hopefully meet some fellow chapter members.I am little confused with the peoples choice class... What do you guys think??? Would it be ok to just bring it as a spectator car???Looking forward to meeting everyone,Enrique

good afternoon, I am a member CCA (#442365) with a 1974 BMW 2002 Sedan. I looking over the rules, judging groups etc., I don't see anything for the double 002's. My question is with the logistics within the Boston chapter, is it that there just are not enough members of the chapter with 2002's to make it worth having events or designations?I was considering driving up from Cape Cod but after reading through rules and groups it appears that wouldn't be productive.I would also like to know how many Boston CCA Chapter members who are owners of 1970 to 1976 2002's might be interested in doing a special interest group within the Boston Chapter.I live on Cape Cod and welcome any feedback or input. saturday august 27th I was at Mont-tremblant in canada to take a look at the event of the boston chapter.Before I used to race in motorcycle and motocross but after many injuries I decide to try something else. Once there I had the chance to ride with an instructor for about 30 minutes...It was amazing! simply the best ride of my life. The guy was really nice to gave me this opportunity and I felt totaly secure in his car. I would like to thanks him again and give a thumbs up for your event. there is a picture of is car in attachement....sorry I forgot his name...my adrenaline was too high!next time for me it's gonna be as a driver ...

Two 225/40ZR18 and two 255/35ZR18. These just passed state inspection, so still street legal. The 255's are probably good for 2-4 more autocross events, the 255's would last another autocross season. But I'm not autocrossing this car any more, and will be switching to something more comfortable for everyday driving. Watkins Glen Driving School Sept. 21-22

Hey everybody,[p][/p]I'm interested in going to the driving school at Watkins Glen in September. I've have a blast at the schools at NHMS in the past few years, but thought it would be fun to try out a new track. Can anyone who's been to this event in the past give me an idea of what the event is like. Specifically I'm interested in the experience at the track, lodging (location, cost, etc.), and post event camaraderie. [p][/p]I'd like to make the trip down, but seeing as how I have to take time off of work, stay in a hotel, plus gas and car prep, I know it's not going to be cheap. Basically I would like to get people's opinions on whether it's worth the trip.[p][/p]Also, this would be my first track day in my new (to me) '05 Cadillac CTS-V, as I've sold the e39 540.
