trying to like the rain!

Ohhhkay, By now everybody (within earshot) knows how I feel about driving in the rain. So. how do I join the group of smiley faced people who say " i love driving in the rain! it's so much fun!" while I walk around with teeth stuck together and grim of face saying " I'm having so much fun".....uh uh. Good rain tires might help.we won't go there about my coasting, no we won't! thank you very much, so? recs?

What a great trip :D. I really enjoyed Monticello (pronounced with a soft "C" for those that haven't lived near NYC :P), but Le Circuit was great!!

Kudos again to everyone involved in organizing, especially Joe & Simon.

A big "Thank You" to all that helped with the brakes on Sunday: Denis, Marty, Mike, Andrew, Bob, Jordan, and Sanjeev (Moral support and 2x6 blocks!). The run following the brake job was an absolute blast. Now the front tires are almost shot :w00t:

Special thanks to my instructors. Bruce and Marty I really appreciated all of the input and feedback. Can't get enough of that stuff.

Now I need to figure out how to get "The Glen"

We managed to set a few efficiency records yesterday, and I think most had one of their most enjoyable events in quite some time. 93 drivers, 8 (really fun) runs, on a breezy and warm Sunday afternoon. Lot's of smiles to go around, and last car @ 2:50pm.. Wow. Totally coordination and hustling by all.

How many people loved that sweeper? I think I would have paid to get that location as a worker assignment. :)

Thanks Dan. New suspension setup and bigger sneakers get the job done. Catching some air with the right front tire in a high speed transition, full throttle in the turn. Dan said this was taken at the last BMW autocross, I think it was at the NER Porsche autocross on July 10.

July 18 F1 Outdoors karting event - Still time to register

Still have about 10 spots left for our first individual karting event at F1 Outdoors in East Bridgewater, MA. Registration closes on Sunday 7/11. Arrive at 10 a.m., racing starts at 11, and we should be done by about 1:00 p.m. Everyone will drive in 3 heats, with the 15 qualifiers racing a 4th time for the trophy.:D

We're running the Grand Prix circuit which is about 1 mile long and there won't be much traffic since there will be no more than 15 karts on the track in each heat.:P Should be a great time.

I want to give a big "shout out" to Lance Mitchell for hosting the much appreciated undercarriage tech session last Saturday. The techs did a great job showing us all the little "inside" stuff that only techs know, and those with newer cars had the trouble codes scanned.

These sessions are a huge benefit to club members who do their own work, but otherwise never get to see their car underneath with a technician. It costs the dealership a lot of $$ (gotta pay the techs) without much side benefit, as most of us who benefit from the session are unlikely to go to the dealer for repairs.

It makes it that much more important that we recognize publicly the donation that BMW of Shrewsbury has given the members of the club.

Just want to give a big THANK YOU to the event organizers, Monticello was a huge success and great fun. Lots of track time, incident-free and right on schedule both days -- great execution! The combining of groups and sessions worked really well, the weather was perfect, even Monticello roads are improving. Monticello is an event every member should strive to attend ... in addition to Mont Tremblant and BAB.

AutoX and Children

I'm currently an instructor with BMW and Audi Club chapters from White Mountain Chapter, down to Virginia. I've been an instructor for 3 years now. I own a SPEC Miata, of which I'm trying to keep my MazdaSpeed sponsorship, by competing in at least 2 competitions each year. Because I only do DEs, I don't have any times to post to Mazda to keep my discount (cost) sponsor.

I'm trying to look into doing an autoX with BMW, as I did a few years ago, but now I have a family.

My wife's tolerence for doing car events is thin, but I need to squeeze in at least two autoX this year to keep my sponsored status. If I bring my 8yo son, then I get best of both worlds: car day with father/son day.

I would never leave him alone in the parking lot, so I'd have to bring him with me on my runs.

Is it acceptable with BostonBMW to have an 8y0 child in the car for an autoX? Assuming that he's properly strapped in AND has an approved helmet?

Autocross #3 - Post pics and vids

Fun times yesterday. Here is my fastest run. This was my 7th run, and i hit 2 cones, though i don't know where. 74.77 +2. My best clean was 75.0 on my final run.

A little sloppy, i know. Still figuring out the new suspension. The video quality is crappy.

Guys,

I wanted to give a special thanks to Miguel and his VelozMedia team for their valuable assistance on Monday's driving school at NHMS.

As it happened, my main radiator hose burst during my second run and of course coolant rushed out of the system for the better part of 2 laps.. When I came into the garage - the car was spewing smoke - of course we let it cool down and then identified the issue... The initial thought was to have a new rubber hose fitted into the engine compartment so that I could drive over to Concord Motorsport (who actually had the part available) - as it happened, Miguel and his team were present for the day... and I simply asked for help... he didn't really have the time as his group was running in 25 minutes, and he was busy tweaking his car.. BUT, what shocked me the most was that he dropped everything he was doing to look for a suitable hose and then to specially fit it to the flanges that attached to the hose...WOW.... he was so very down to earth and selfless... I was blown away by his actions and how he even walked over to my garage and showed me how to replace the part. Heck, he even lent me the tools to do it AND then his team followed up with me to make sure I was set!

Very professional in all respects - the day could have been worse - but Miguel helped make for all around great day!

Thanks Miguel and VelozMedia - You have a fan for life in me!!!

Thought I would post this in case some people were wondering where they may have missed a gate/ went off course. Today's course was fun yet frustrating at the same time and I can only imagine how the first timers out there felt haha. I had 6 runs on film, however only 2 came out clear as I forgot to set the focus on the other 4:angry:

This run was clean but probabaly not one of my best. Enjoy!

I'm don't mean to put pressure on any of our great volunteers, but I'm wondering where the results are. I want to find out if that cone I hit on my last run got counted or not :D

It seems like there were more hiccups this time around than usual. Is there anything us participants can do to help? - besides quick worker shift changes and the other usual points we talk about at the drivers meeting...

I think I left my REALLY bright green, Nalgene brand water bottle at my station at the autocross. I was parked just across from the main entrance. I was wondering if anyone happened to notice it, grab it, or know who else I could ask (whoever owns/manages the property, etc.). At Sunday (5/23)'s auto cross -- I had my sunglasses all the way up to the last moment -- and I even looked where my car was...

It's either along with my loaner helmet (I'm going to email the staff), or I dropped it in Suzy's porsche when I rode as a passenger? Anyone know her and how to contact her? thank you!!

Recently I sold my car(Nissan 300ZX) that I had autocrossed for 3 years at various events(BMW CCA, SCCA NER, and Renegade Miata) and did a driving school at NHMS with. This past week, i was at NHMS for the SAE Formula Hybrid competition where we raced the hybrid-electric car we built against other colleges. When I got back on the track, I was bitten by the autocross bug again.

Is anyone in the Boston area looking for a co-driver for autocross events? I have raced a FWD 4 cylinder sedan, RWD 6 cylinder sports car, and RWD open-wheeled electric race car.

I am looking to get back into autocross as I decide what my next vehicle will be and find one to purchase. If anyone has any advice for me in this respect, I would appreciate that as well.
