Ice Racing Timing, Scoring, and Trophies

Your Score for the day will be the average of your two best Run Ranks if there are three or more Runs that day. If only one or two Runs can be completed, your Score for the day will be your single best Run Rank.

Your Run Times are your elapsed times for each Run. Your Run Rank for a particular Run is your rank within your Class ordered by Run Times.

If you had the fifth fastest time in your Class for Run 1, your Run Rank for Run 1 would be 5. Assuming an Ice Race with four Runs, and if your Run Ranks were 2, 4, 7, and 3, your Score for the Day would be the average of 2 and 3 = 2.5.

Tiebreakers

The First Tiebreaker will be the lowest Combined Losing Margin for the two Best Run Ranks of the tied competitors. The Second Tiebreaker will be the highest Combined Winning Margin for the two Best Run Ranks of the tied competitors.

Your Combined Losing Margin is the total time (for your two Best Run Ranks) by which you lost to the next Run Ranks above you in Class.

Your Combined Winning Margin is the total time (for your two Best Run Ranks) by which you beat the next Run Ranks below you in Class.

If only one or two Runs are completed, the Tiebreaker system will utilize only your single best Run Rank.

Penalties And Reruns

  • There will be a two (2) second penalty for each cone that is knocked over or is moved off its ice divot.
  • Driving by the wrong side of any cone is considered an Off-Course or DNF (Did Not Finish).
  • If someone other than your passenger pushes you out of a snowbank you will receive a DNF.
  • If you are towed out of a snowbank you will receive a DNF.
  • You may not refuse assistance for more than 60 seconds from the time your vehicle stops.
  • In the event of a missed time or other timing error, you will get a Rerun.
  • If you catch up with another car on the Course, do not tailgate. Come to a COMPLETE STOP, then proceed through the course at least 200 feet behind the other vehicle and you will get a Rerun.
  • If a car in front of you is not moving, you may continue your Run if you can do so WITHOUT ANY RISK. If there is any doubt whatsoever, stop and help the other driver. You will get a Rerun.

Event Trophies

Trophies for each Class will be awarded at the end of each Ice Race at Village Pizza in Bristol. If you are not present to receive your trophy, you may nominate a friend to accept it for you, you may pick it up from the Coordinator at a following Ice Race, or you may pick it up at the After Dark Trophy and Video Presentation held at the conclusion of the Ice Racing season.

Event Trophies will not be held beyond the end of the season except by specific request by that participant. The number of Trophies in each Class will be based on the total number of participants in each Class:

Ice Racing Trophies
1-2 Entrants Entrants are bumped to the next Class – See Class Bumping
(Exception: The top Class will be awarded a trophy with two entrants)
3-4 Entrants First Place Trophy
5-7 Entrants First Place and Second Place Trophies
8-10 Entrants First, Second, and Third Place Trophies
11-13 Entrants First, Second, Third Place, and one Honorable Mention Trophies
14+ Entrants First, Second, Third Place, and two Honorable Mention Trophies

FTD Trophies

Three FTD (Fastest Time of the Day) Trophies will be awarded for each event. A Trophy will be awarded to the participant with the Fastest Time of the Day (the single best Run Time) within each Division. Note that the Divisions have been slightly re-aligned, and now represent the three different Drive Types. No participant may receive more than one FTD Trophy at an event. In such cases, the Trophy that is most closely contested will be awarded to the next participant.

Note that the Studded Class no longer competes with the All-Wheel Drive Classes for an FTD. Street Legal Studded vehicles will now compete in their respective Drive Divisions for FTD. I.e. a front-wheel drive street legal studded car will now compete for the FWD Division FTD.

Season Memorial Trophies

Season Memorial Trophies will be available to anyone that Trophies TWICE or more in the SAME Class (for this purpose, Class is determined prior to any Class Bumping). In order to receive a Season Memorial Trophy, you will be required to turn in ALL Event Trophies earned in THAT Class. Season Memorial Trophies will be engraved with the participant's name, Class, and finish positions in that Class, and the year.
