May 2001 Board Meeting Minutes

Motion to call to order.

1. Call to Order (Joe Marko)

2. Secretary's Report (Will Farnsworth)

• Review minutes of last meeting and accept.
• National form submission - completed months ago.

3. VP/Activities Report (Steve Goldstein)

• Last quarter meeting was a stunning success.
• The Dinnan tech session has been moved.
• Need to start thinking about the next quarterly meeting. Joe talked to some Skip Barber people, F1 Boston may be a good place for it next. Joe to work on this.
• August 22, Hotel in Mt. Tremblant still has vacancy.
• Derek Souza is interested in helping with RI activities.

4. Treasurer's Report (Bruce Augenstein)

• Income and expense report - looks like $33K in the bank.
• Collected $5K from Autocross, payment in advance.
• Have advertising billing out for 2001, $15K plus delinquent accounts.
• Bimmer costs are up. 32 pages in last Bimmer, running net even for publishing costs.
• Autocross budget will be conservative, 105 people showed up for last event. Primary expenses have been made to support additional course.

5. Membership Report (Barry Tarr)

• 2957 current members, 267 associate members for a total of 3224.
• North America BMW now has a part number for the membership sign up form.

6. Communications Director Report (Justin Hughes)

• Mailing labels have been a problem since national moved.
• Advertising invoices are out, $6K in outstanding invoices from last year need to be collected. Iron Horse will pay every month.
• PCA has done special advertising supplement with business card size ads.

7. Driving Events Report (Joe Marko, Mike Cox, Brittany Weber)

• Autocross - Concern that only 40% of vehicles are BMW's since dealers group is supporting this event.
• Safety School - now called Advanced Driving School - Had first event. All worked well. 24 students. Only complaint was that there wasn't enough time. White Mountain chapter is working in a better water distribution system. Need to get September and June schools on Web.
• Drivers Schools - Happy to report that we got our money from the Canadians from 2 years ago. Almost didn't have event due to issues at track. Baird waved the event fee for us because of issue. Suggestion to take ½ of money and contribute to Bairds's charity of choice. Motion made, vote taken and passed.
• O'Fest - Approved schedule for schools. No sponsors. Will allow on-line registration.
• Club Racing - Last weekend worked out great for all. Bigger race groups. Workers and SCCA people really like our club participants.
• Heavy recruitment for flagger's for O'Fest. Need to nail down ASAP. Will pay $150/day for people with experience. Racers happy that we pressed for two days for O'Fest racing.

8. Karting/Grand Prix Report (Vassilis Kontoglis)

• Will divide league between now and December.

9. Concours Report (Dan Mull)

• Castle Hill not sponsored by BMW this year. It's sponsored by the BMW Massachusetts Retailers.

10. New Business (Joe Marko)

• Komen Drive - need drivers.
