Calling All Members

by Fred Beck

Elections for the Boston Chapter Officers for the year 2001 are coming up! Candidate statements and voting will occur at the Fourth Quarter General Meeting at BMW of Peabody in November. Votes can also be cast via the ballot to be published in the November/December Bimmer and on the Chapter web site. As always, all elected positions are open - President, Vice President/Activities Director, Secretary, Treasurer, Membership Chair, and three Director positions. If you have an interest in any of these positions, please contact the Director of Communications, Justin Hughes, to have your name put on the ballot.

Beyond elected positions, we are putting out a call for all members who would like to volunteer to help the Chapter to step forward and make your interests known. I am proud to say that our Chapter is getting better as it grows.

This year we added a karting league, Chapter picnic, and the upcoming club racing school to our repertoire. We also separated duties for the web site and Bimmer, and added staff to the Bimmer, which has reduced the demands on individual staff members. As we continue to add more activities and refinement to the Chapter, we need more talent to help everything run smoothly. In short, we need your help!

The areas in which you can help are many. As the duties of the combined Vice President/Activities Director are very time intensive, we are looking for volunteers to form an Activities Committee that would work with the VP/AD to lighten her/his load. Whatever your interest - driving events, concours, tech sessions, or social events - there is a place on the Activities Committee for you.

If there is an event you would like to see in the Chapter but we don't yet have, now is the time for you to step forward and make it happen! We also need event specific volunteers for our current autocrosses, driving schools, and other events. And we are also looking to fill new functions, such as a Philanthropic and Charity Committee or Coordinator. If enough people respond to this request, we might even need a Volunteer Coordinator!

In closing, if you have the yearning to become involved please contact me, or any of the Board or Staff members with your interest. We would really like to have your help, and from my own experience I know you have a lot of fun by getting involved. As always, if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions about the Boston Chapter, please do not hesitate to contact me at fbeck@boston-bmwcca.org. Drive safely, and we'll look forward to seeing you in November!
