March 2000 Boston Chapter Board Meeting Minutes

Date: Wednesday, March 15, 2000
Present: Fred Beck, Will Farnsworth, Joe Marko, John Sullivan Jr., Barry Tarr, Bruce Augenstein, Suzin Koehler, Justin Hughes, Denis Friedman, Sue Rathbone, Victor Cruz,  Anne Weber.

1. Call to Order (Fred Beck):

  • Fred called the meeting to order and handed out a copy of the agenda.
  • Discussion regarding sensitive issues.
  • Amended Bylaws were handed out, read and reviewed. Get comments back to Fred by 3/18.
  • Discussion regarding supplemental Insurance - coverage for driving schools.
  • Luka has accepted the Driving Event Director position.

2. VP/Activities Report (Fred Beck):

  • Bimmer delays - Victor Cruz to write article that covered event and apologize for the low turnout. Victor to contact Rich'e Cartoons and create a tech article about audio.
  • Aim to get the Bimmer out by the 20th of the month.
  • Womens only tech session scheduled for 6/3.
  • A new event, F1 Go Carting, Vassilis Kontoglis will chair this.
  • Second Quarter meeting will be at Foreign Motors West, discussion of having George Plimton will speak on 5/24. Fred will follow up with Luka regarding Hotel accommodations for George for this event.
  • Send card in May addition as a reminder for 2nd Quarter Meeting.

3. Secretary's Report (Will Farnsworth):

  • Minutes from the previous meeting were unavailable to be handed out.

4. Treasurers Report (Bruce Augenstein):

  • $42K in general account. Think about "giving back" to the members.
  • What would you do as a give back? Charity money should be put into a charity fund. Use funds to purchase equipment for events, Tents. Admission to Larz Anderson Museum. Bruce to Poll and make recommendations. 

5. Membership Report (Barry Tarr):

  • 46 new member letters. 2515 full members, 220 associate members for a total of 2735 members.
  • Barry to look into major mailing with Joe Marko, do proposal.

6. Ad Managers Report (Suzin Koehler): 

  • Iron house Car Carrier now in, Remax will start soon. Bentley will not be running ad.
  • How much money are we expected to raise from advertising this year?
  • Justin and Suzin to remove "Address Correction Requested" on back of Bimmer.· Put information regarding Address changes on the masthead.

7. Bimmer Report (Justin Hughes/Suzin Hoehler):

  • Editorial letters published in the Bimmer - Joe Marko makes a good for not running articles in the Bimmer - limited space. Justin wants to try it. Edit out dealership names if negative. Justin given the go-ahead to do this and use his good judgement.
  • Discussion regarding candidacy statements - Agreed that what Fred wrote heightening the awareness of the election - That's it!
  • Need Bimmer Financial report.
  • Scanning photo's, discussion regarding this subject - Suzin and Justin to put together a proposal for purchasing a scanner.

8. Webmaster Report (Fred Beck):

  • Cost to host web site, Boston Chapter BMW CCA is taking up 25% of bandwidth. Motion to pay web master $50 per month for utilizing his system. Motion seconded, Motion was voted on, vote was taken, and the motion was passed.

9. Ice Racing Report (Fred Beck):

  • No Ice. Driving events committee to put together a package for them.
  • Discussion regarding having one of the Autocrosses be a benefit to Parker Spooner.

10. Concours Report (Dan Mull):

  • 6/11 Museum of Transportation German Car Day.
  • 9/16 Boston Chapter Concours at the Museum of Transportation.
  • 9/24 Castle Hill Concours.
  • 10/1 Bavarian Autosport show and shine.

11. Regalia Report (Victor Cruz):

  • Discussion about logo color and size.
  • Staff polo shirts on hold till logo is revised.
  • Waiting for new catalog for selecting regalia items and colors.

12. Autocross Report (Fred Beck):

  • Secured 8 dates for this year at Fort Devens.

13. New Business (Fred Beck):

  • Develop year 2000 budget.
  • Charity disbursements Make a motion to donate $1,000 to the Lahey Clinic for 1999. Motion seconded, Motion was voted on, vote was taken, and the motion was passed. Have J. Sullivan be donation Chair.
  • Driving instructor spring training - make a training video of school.
  • Obtain CD's of Roundel's for Library - Luka works at Robert Bentley.

Motion to end meeting - Motion was voted on, vote was taken, motion was passed.
