The Party of the Milleniumby Ron Sisco and Fred Beck |
|
The Annual Boston Chapter Holiday Party was called the Millennium Party, which took place January 8th at the Boylston Schul-Verein in Walpole, and was a great way for club members, their friends, and families to reminisce of 1999 car club events and ring in the New Year. Schul-Verin, a well-known German club nestled in an evergreen forest on private grounds, turned out to be just the place for a grand celebration. It was easy to find, especially with John Sullivan's 635CSi parked at the road leading the way, had plenty of parking, and a comfortable ambiance. The evening started with a social hour, great conversation, and some excellent German beverages. I enjoyed seeing club friends again that I had not seen since the warm weather, with my last event being the leaf peeping rally in the fall. Catering was provided by our traditional favorite, Dan's Buffet Way, and his German-style knockwurst, bratwurst, sauerkraut, beets, and potatoes were excellent. A new addition this year was sauerbraten - my favorite German fare. Fantastic desserts, such as apple strudel and black forest cake followed. To augment the great food and camaraderie, the evening featured door prize giveaways and a silent auction of some very nice BMW related goodies. Items generously donated by local BMW dealers, parts suppliers, and services providers were auctioned off to the highest bidder in a silent auction, with the proceeds going to charity. A number of great prizes, including miniature Z3 kid cars, BMW books, caps, shirts, clocks, among others, were awarded to the happy recipients. Our special thanks goes out to BMW NA and the many generous automotive service and parts organizations for their donations of the door prizes and silent auction items. If you were a recipient of one of these items, be sure to thank the organizations that donated them. During the awards ceremony, Espen Frank received the Fourth Annual Outstanding Member Award, in recognition of his outstanding service and dedication to the Chapter from January 1994 through December 1998 as Secretary of the Chapter. The members of the Boston Chapter BMW CCA thanked Espen for his unending efforts on our behalf, and for all of his assistance in helping the Chapter expand. Stan Jackson Sr. received his trophy for 3rd in class in the 1999 Massachusetts BMW Retailers Autocross Series. People who have not yet picked up their autocross or NEGP trophies should contact Autocross Chair Fred Beck. John Sullivan spoke in memory of Allan Goddu's father, who passed away recently from cancer. Allan has been a friend of the Boston Chapter for many years. He served as VP of the White Mountain Chapter last year and was most recently on their Board. The Boston Chapter made a donation in Ed Goddu's memory. We had a very good response on the traditional food drive, with all food collected being donated to Walpole food pantry. This is one small way the Boston Chapter BMW CCA gives back to the local community every year. This was truly a family event as people stayed late, talking, telling stories, and reliving the events of the year until the hall closed. Even the kids (including the Jackson boys) were happy riding the mini Z3s on the dance floor. The Holiday Party was made a success through the help of many volunteers. Maria Anggraeni helped organize the party and tended the door. Suzin Koehler secured contributions from our sponsors for the silent auction, and Will Farnsworth and Dan Mull helped immensely with the door prizes and silent auction. Ann Marie Weber, Maria, and Fred Beck handed out the many door prizes. To these club members, and everyone else who helped make this event a great one, thank you! We look forward to doing it all again for 2001!
