August 1999 Boston Chapter Board Meeting Minutes

Present: Bruce Augenstein, Fred Beck, Will Farnsworth, Dennis Friedman, Carlos Giron, Dan Mull, Joe Marko, Luka Serdar Jr., John Sullivan Jr., Barry Tarr, Ann Marie Weber, Peter Weber, David Christman, Suzin Koehler, Greg Scott, Sue Rathbone, Maria Anggraeni, Bruce Machon, Stan Jackson Sr., Stan Jackson Jr., Justin Hughes, John Mansfield, Tammi Karsin, Victor Cruz.

1. Call to Order (Fred Beck):

• Fred called the meeting to order and handed out a copy of the agenda.
• By laws update - No activity.

2. Secretary's Report (Will Farnsworth):

• The minutes from the last meeting were handed out, and the most important items reviewed briefly, corrections noted. The board accepted the minutes as amended.
• New staff contact list handed out.

3. Activities Director's Report (Maria Anggraeni):

• Discussion of Key Fob with BMW CCA chapter logo on it - to be given out by dealerships with the purchase of a new car.
• Maria to work with John Sullivan to feel out dealers.
• Proposal by Joe Marko to make Bruce Machon RI Rep.
• Denis Friedman agreed to do Wine Tasting 10/2/99.

4. Treasurer's Report (Bruce Augenstein):

• Currently have $29,000 in bank, in good shape due to ad revenue collection.

5. Membership Report (Barry Tarr):

• Currently have 2350 members, with 60 of these new. Currently running 70% renewal rate.

6. Legal Update (Trish Farnsworth):

• Nothing new since no action on By Laws.
• Will follow issue in Boston Globe about insurance issue with race/drivers schools.

7. Bimmer/Website Update (Greg Scott):

• Pins are available for anyone who has been in the club more than five years - the Activities Director will contact National to get the appropriate pins for all on staff.
• Michel Potheau is no longer writing for the Roundel. [he later returns - Webmaster]

 8. Advertising Manager's Report (Suzin Koehler):

• Foreign Motors West is now running a full page ad. Car Tunes has been added with 1/3 page.
• Currently have about $10,000 outstanding from advertisers. See handout.
• Accounts Receivable handout shows aging detail.

9. Autocross Report (Fred Beck):

• New registration procedure is working great. This saved one hour on event day.
• Definitely will lose Rockingham next year. Other possibilities are Fort Devin's, Bay Side Expo, Foxboro Stadium - any more ideas give to Fred.
• Maintaining storage locker in Burlington at the cost of $600.00/year. Do we want to keep it?

10. Ice Racing Report (Stanley Jackson and Stan Jackson Jr.):

• 50 entries per event, income equals $4,700.
• Looking for assistance for registration - two (2) people.
• Bought a new printer.
• Check donated to the Bristol Community Center, may want to call the Boston Globe or the local paper for some visibility.

11. Driving School/Club Race Report (Luka Serdar Jr. and Denis Friedman):

• Canadian event had 89 students, 210 people for dinner and no serious accidents.
• For next year, have the event NOT coincide with the Three Rivers Race.
• Classroom instruction is going well. Maybe have an advanced course for the instructors.
• Next event will be Lime Rock. Boston Chapter is doing all of the work. Fitzgerald will be the Chief Instructor.
• Need six (6) more long life battery's $80 - 90 ea. to replace the 3 year old ones.
• J. Marko made a motion to spend $400 to buy new batteries. Motion seconded, voted on and approved.

12. Club Racing Report (Sue Rathbone):

• Positive feedback from all racers. The event broke even

13. Concours Report (Dan Mull):

• 9/11 is the Concours for the club.
• 9/19 is the Castle Hill Concours, BMW will be the sponsor again - same deal as last year, parking and tent.

14. Librarian (David Christman):

• Nothing new, no books. Run something in the BIMMER.

15. New Business (Fred Beck):

• O'Fest - J. Marko - Track availability looks good, National would like to have in Waterville Valley again. Joe can't be Chair or Co-Chair. Need to get back to National to let know if serious. Put something on the Web looking for help. Joe will lead Scoping committee.
• Cal Calimari - Porsche Club - Children's Hospital donation, he is looking for something on web site saying event happened - We will ad a link.
• Message board - Ken Winegold - Need a forum for discussion - threaded discussion - Greg to make link to it, Ken will take responsibility to moderate it. Action item - Put together a set of rules for the board to review.
• John Mansfield - Mt. Tremblant - less time on the track as a club racer - Club states that the Drivers School comes first, then club racing due to financials.
• Holiday party - Date? Maria to look into and place.

Motion to end meeting - Motion was voted on, vote was taken, motion was passed.
