Keys In HandDriving Season is Here!by Fred Beck |
|
Surprising as it may seem, the Autocross Series is almost too much of a success this year. Once participation gets over 70-80 people, there is just not time to get enough runs per person for a really enjoyable event. So, as mentioned elsewhere in this issue, participation in the autocross series is by preregistration only, beginning with Autocross #3 this month. Please use the Autocross Preregistration Form in this issue or the registration form on the web site. Contact Autocross Chair Fred Beck (that would be me!) if you have any questions about the new procedures. We try to post the Autocross results on the web site within 10 days of the event. Be sure to check out your results and the season standings! We are hoping for much better weather than past years for the Summerfest Fun Rally this month. (Last year 8 die-hards attended even though it was pouring rain.) This year we have the participation of Wagner BMW, which should add some spice to the event. If you've never done a fun rally, check this one out. You will be driving some nice backroads, and meet some cool people while doing it! As of this writing, there are still slots available in all run groups in the New York/Patroon Chapter Driving School at Mt. Tremblant, Canada. Since Bridgehampton Race Circuit on Long Island closed, the New York Chapter has been without a real "home track". This will be my second year attending this event (along with Bimmers Across the Border in July), and I really hope to see enough attendance so the New York Chapter can make this an annual event. The track at St. Jovite is great, and the town of Tremblant very beautiful, so this should be a great event. Registration closes June 11. Please contact Steve Musolino at smusolino@nybmwcca.org or (516) 821-2002 for more information. Z3 owners take note, we have a new (to the Boston Chapter) event on the books: Rich & Doug's Cow Tipping Seminar. This is billed as a Z3 Drive from Boston to Franconia Notch, NH, and should be a lot of fun based on the photos and stories from past years events on Rich & Doug's Cow Tipping Seminar Web Site. Please RSVP to Rich or Doug if you're planning on attending. If you're not in Canada or New Hampshire that weekend, check out German Car Day at the Brookline Museum of Transportation. This should be a great show, with some rare older BMW's, and will be a bit more low-key than the Castle Hill Concours. And hey, it's only $3 for card-carrying BMW CCA members. What a deal! Coming up in July, we have an Autocross, a Dyno Tech Session at Boston Performance Group and a Performance Tech Session at Schneller. We also have two major events on the schedule: Oktoberfest 99 and Bimmers Across the Border III! We currently have positions open on the Boston Chapter staff (Ad Manager and Regalia Coordinator), so if you have been thinking about getting more involved with the Club, now is the time! For more information on these positions and Boston Chapter events, please see the chapter Ultimate Calendar at http://www.boston-bmwcca.org/ultimate-calendar.html, or contact Fred Beck at fbeck@boston-bmwcca.org.
