We have a full plate of events this May, with six possible Boston Chapter events for you! The action starts with the Spring Cleanup and Autobody Tech Session at Sansossio Auto Body in Natick from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, May 8. This event serves a dual function. In the morning you get a chance to clean up your car and get it ready for the summer season. In the afternoon Filipo Sansossio will talk in as much detail as you want about autobody repair, restoration, and painting processes. It will be an open format, so the more questions you ask, the more you will learn! Please RSVP for this event, and remember that Sansossio's is on Cochituate Street, not Cochituate Road. Exactly one week later we have the Undercarriage Tech Session at Mighty Motors in Cambridge from 10 am to 3 pm on Saturday, May 15. We will get down and dirty for this tech session, with Jim Albright putting as many cars on the lift as he can. You will be able to watch at close range as Jim checks the condition of your BMW's undercarriage. Bad ball joints, cracked subframes, leaky diffswe'll find em! If you are doing any track events or autocrossing this season, this is an event you will want to attend. (Ask me how I know!) If that isn't enough BMW activity for your weekend, come to Autocross 2 at Rockingham Park in Salem, NH, beginning at 8 am on Sunday, May 16. We have an excellent new course this year, an improved novice program, and a great deal of fun every time the autocross crew gets together. As suggested in the Crushing the Cones column elsewhere in this issue, consider showing up before 8 am to help with the course setup. Setting up and walking the course is a great way to get psyched for the day! For more driving events, come check out the Boston Chapter Driving School at NHIS on Friday, May 21. Though it is too late to register for the event, if you have never done a driving school and have some interest in doing one in the future, come on up to observe the event. Learn about our driving schools by talking to the students, instructors, and event organizers. We always need help running the event, so if you want volunteer some time, contact the Driving School Chair, Luka Serdar, at (781) 863-5859 or at serdar@boston-bmwcca.org. Next in line is the Second Quarter General Meeting at Foreign Motors West in Natick, from 7 pm - 9 pm on Thursday, May 27. This will be an excellent meeting, with long-time Boston Chapter member Michael Izor (member 225) presenting his illustrated history of the origins of model cars and the development of BMW model cars. Michael is a huge collector of BMW Model cars, and other BMW memorabilia. Feel free to bring your model cars for discussion with Michael after the event. The Jacksons will also award the 1999 Ice Racing Season trophies at this event, so be sure not to miss it! Wrapping up this fun-filled month is the Memorial Day Caravan to Lime Rock, beginning at 7 am from the Westboro Plaza on the Mass Pike on Monday, May 31. We will be driving to this famous racetrack in Connecticut to see the Dodge Dealers Grand Prix, an awesome day of racing of all types of cars, including some very fast BMW M3s. See the announcement in this issue for further details. For more information on Boston Chapter events, please see the Ultimate Calendar on the web site or contact Fred Beck at fbeck@boston-bmwcca.org. If there is an event you would like to have, but don't see listed, take the initiative and volunteer to create and help coordinate it! Please contact Fred with your interest. See you at one (or more!) events soon.
