March 1999 BIMMER Keys In Hand

Start Your Engines

Which Club events will you attend in March? If you have time, come to all of them! Otherwise, choose among a variety of activities. While the weather did not cooperate with us in January (too warm), hopefully by the time you read this we will have held at least one Ice Race. If conditions are good this month, we will run on Sunday March 7th, 14th, and/or 21st. This is the last month to attend this event, so make the drive north and check it out!

On Saturday, March 13, Boston Beer Works hosts a Microbrewery Tour and tasting at their Brookline avenue location, right across from the Fenway. There will be a number of excellent beers on tap, including the Bambino Ale (light), Fenway Pale Ale (hoppy), Curley’s Irish Stout (say no more!), and a seasonal such as a Marzen or Maibock. I visited the Boston Beer Works last month, and sampled the Hercules Strong Ale (barleywine), the Eisbock (triplebock), and a Russian Imperial Stout, all of which were very good. The BBW also has a full kitchen, so plan to hang out after the tour, have lunch, and enjoy a few pints with your local BMW enthusiasts.

If beer is not your preferred beverage, or even if it is, be sure not to miss the Spring Wine Tasting on Saturday, March 20, at Bob and Darice Wareham’s beautiful country home in Carlisle, just north of Concord. Acclaimed wine expert Len Rothenberg of Federal Wine and Spirits in Boston will lead the tasting, while the guests will provide food for a pot luck buffet. This has been a great event every year, and space is limited. Pick up your phone and RSVP now to reserve your spot!

March is capped off by the Annual Women Only Tech Session on Saturday, March 27, at Foreign Motors West. The event will be led by Ann Marie Weber: autocrosser, frequent high-performance driving school participant, and Boston Chapter Director. The tech session will be an open forum for women to ask Foreign Motors West mechanics questions about BMWs, or cars in general, in a relaxed setting. Like the Wine Tasting, this event has received rave reviews each year. If you are a woman who wants to know more about your car, and/or would like to meet other female Club members, this is a must do event!

As a preview for things to come, April events include the annual Dent Wizard Tech Session, a Driving School Prep Tech Session at HMS, and the start of the 1999 Autocross Series on Sunday, April 18th. So far three people have volunteered to help with this year’s autocross series—thank you! We can still use more help, and there are a number of existing (and new!) events awaiting your input. If you would like to help run an event. Please contact me at fbeck@boston-bmwcca.org. I look forward to seeing you at one or more events soon!
