As you may be aware, the historic Bridgehampton Race
Circuit on Long Island is a breath away from being turned into a golf course and condo
development. The circuit is located on top of a large hill which is an important watershed
for Eastern Long Island. I have really enjoyed driving my 1973 2002tii at the Bridge,
and am forwarding this appeal from Steve Musolino, President and Driving School Chair of
the New York Chapter BMW CCA, in the hopes that many of you will see fit to back this
cause and send the enclosed letter to the Southampton Town Planning Board. Act quickly,
the deadline is Thursday October 1.
For more information on Bridgehampton see Richard Welty's web page,

Thank you for your support and consideration.

Dear Sirs:
Re: Bridgehampton Race Circuit ("The Bridge")
I am writing to you to express my desire to see racing and driver education events
continue for many years to come at The Bridge. Long Island only has one road racing
course, that being the one at Bridgehampton, but far too many environmentally unfriendly
golf courses. The positive economic benefits of the track should not be discounted,
drivers almost always stay overnight and spend substantial sums of money in local
establishments. Accordingly, I believe it is imperative that you do what is necessary to
ensure the long term survival of an important part of Long Island's heritage and
character, not to mention the local economy.
Additionally, and even more importantly, the future of Long Island's water supply is in
your hands. Please do not let the economic interest of Mr. Rubin come before the health,
safety and welfare of the residents of Long Island. Golf courses are known contributors to
groundwater contamination while continued existence as a racetrack would cause no long
term harm to the environment. Do what is right for the people that you have been charged
with protecting and deny the conversion of The Bridge to a ground polluting nuisance.
I have enclosed several copies of this letter and would appreciate it if you would
distribute these to the members of the Town Planning Board.
Thank you for your careful consideration of this matter.
Sincerely,
(your name)
