Boston Chapter Wins NEGP Chapter Challengeby Fred Beck |
|
Twenty-one people showed up on a partly sunny Saturday to partake of the Second Annual Boston - White Mountain Chapter Challenge at the New England Grand Prix in Tewksbury. While the event got off to a slightly late start, attendance was up by 31% from last year. Unfortunately the White Mountain Chapter was under-represented, with only one member showing up to attempt to take the Challenge Title from the Boston Chapter. However, given the tremendous effort that the White Mountain Chapter put into running this year's Oktoberfest, their absence was understandable. Among the drivers present there was excellent competition. The top three finishers were within less than one-half second of each other. Chris Friot took the overall win and FTD, improving significantly from his third-place Boston Chapter Driver trophy finish last year. Bruce Machon moved up from a fifth-place Boston Chapter finish last year to second place this year, and Fred Beck dropped back one place, taking third place for the Boston Chapter. The lone White Mountain Chapter member, Mike Francis, took first place for the White Mountain Chapter. Mike put in a valiant effort, but he was unable to take the Chapter trophy from the Boston Chapter by himself. All in all it was an excellent event. We look forward to having an even more competitive event next year. If you just can't wait until then, try out one of the remaining autocross events, and get ready to gear up for the upcoming Ice Time Trials Season! If you would like to volunteer to help coordinate next year's event, please call Fred Beck.
