Serdar, Phil Paulhus, >Armand Aquino, John

1. Call to Order (Joe Marko)
- Joe called the meeting to order and handed out a copy of the agenda.
2. Secretary's report (Joe Marko):
- Minutes from the last Board Meeting were published in the April 97 BIMMER.
- These minutes were accepted by the Board.
3. Vice President's report (Mike Webb):
- Most events are happening as planned. Still have a shortage of volunteers to coordinate
events.
- Request that everyone assist in recruiting volunteers. Working on topics for upcoming
technical sessions, will advise.
- Events that are advertised early in BIMMER are very well attended.
- Late delivery of BIMMER has caused poor attendance at a couple of events.
- BIMMER delivery is severely affected by the dilatory submission of standard columns.
4. Treasurer's report (Bruce Augenstein):
- Club accounts are healthy, reported over $13,000 in checking account.
- Currently, the club has receivables over 30 days old, collection efforts are being
increased to collect these monies.
- Post office account is sufficiently stocked to pay for BIMMER postage.
- K&K insurance forms will be filed once for autocross season, other events need to
file them as they occur.
- A meeting with the past treasurer will be scheduled soon to complete the transition of
treasurers.
5. Membership report (Barry Tarr):
- The Boston chapter currently has 1683 full time members and 122 associate members. This
is up 4.6% from the 1st Quarter of 1997.
- Barry will get membership forms for all board members to have and distribute.
- Barry will also find out if associate members generate national rebates.
6. Driver's School/Club Race Report (Luka Serdar):
- June driving school sold out in a couple of days, and 15 people are on the waiting list.
- Driving school checking account has $1600.
- Instructors list is healthy and 3 new instructors have been added.
- The instructor training program is working well and will be continued at the June
school. Luka and the driving school committee will finalize the program soon.
- Driving school revenue is shrinking due to rising track cost, insurance, desire to have
paid corner workers, etc.
- Professional corner workers are great to have at schools but cost a lot and are not
always available. A concern about professionals is possible lack of caring because driving
schools are not races. An option for corner working is having experienced students work
with novices.
- Proposed: Driving school committee wants to hire professional corner workers to run
better schools. This proposal was motioned and approved by vote. The driving school
committee is to present proposed costs at next meeting.
7. Autocross Report (John Mansfield):
- First autocross has been held. 43 participants each ran the course 6 times.
- Six new club members (and 1 associate) were signed up that day. The course was very well
received by the participants.
- Each run typically lasted between 38 - 40 seconds.
- The autocross sponsor, BMW of Peabody, will have a banner displayed at each event.
8. BIMMER Report (Armand Aquino):
- March BIMMER cost $X for layout and printing, April BIMMER is projected to cost
approximately $Y or a 21% increase.
- The price of BIMMER is escalating rapidly and is a matter of concern.
- A separate meeting will be scheduled to discuss the BIMMER costs.
- The new deadline for submissions to BIMMER is the 10th of the preceding month.
- Armand reports that due to the number of submissions to BIMMER, the newsletter could
easily grow to more than 24 pages.
9. Regalia Report (Phil Paulhus):
- Phil has set up the regalia display at several events.
- The items are well received with several items being sold to date.
- An order form has been established and may be published in BIMMER.
- Our supplier does have the ability to process credit card transactions.
10. Concours Report (Dan Mull):
- Dan reports that the Museum of Transportation has a new staff and director, all of whom
are very willing to work with us.
- Lawn events require sponsorship monies ($150 or $5/car).
- Dan has agreed to work at German Car Day for the MOT on June 22, thus getting our
sponsorship fee waived.
- Zymol monies are still due from last years concours, Dan will follow up on the
collection.
- BMW was the most represented marque at last years German Car Day, we hope to be again!
11. New Business (Joe Marko):
- Joe reported that the Mont Tremblant weekend planning is well underway, and the weekend
looks like it may be one of the best club events we've ever held, details to follow.
