EditorialDriving School Debateby Armand Aquino |

On June 20th, we had our first drivmg school at NHIS. It was my first time there and didn't really know what to expect. Up until now, my "home" track had been Watkins Glen International in New York. For those who haven't been to the Glen, it is a very scenic track approximately 3+ miles in length and is located at the bottom of one of the Finger Lakes. I had been "told" that E36s run between 2:20 to 2:50 there. In a nutshell, NHIS was a blast! It was an entirely new experience for me in that it was a relatively short course. I was also surprised to see how nice and clean the facilities were. At the Glen, the bathrooms are more like "glorified outhouses". I did wish that NHIS was a two day school. Cars ranging from a Ford Taurus, Mazda RX7s, Honda Preludes, Neons, Saturns, Porsches, and of course, a plethora of BMWs were all in attendance. It is also great to see the vast range in age groups represented and also that more women are participating in these events. However, as the popularity of driving schools increase and the diversity in cars and drivers increase, it is inevitable that situations will arise where rules and regulations will not be able to accommodate everyone. In this issue, we have a "counter point" article written by Mark Luckman, Executive Director of BMW CCA. His thoughts were written in response to Joe Marko's Reflections from the Hood column in the June issue. Mark's comments speak for themselves. As the Editor, I feel that it is part of my duty to convey messages and opinions that every club member has to offer in terms of the direction of the club. Do you have a different side to this controversy? Please feel free to e-mail (or regular mail) me your comments and/or suggestions regarding this topic. Of course, you can still e-mail me for any other general comments and sugges tions that you would like to make on behalf of the club. Until next time...
