| I am a newbie here and wanted some opinions on what car to buy. I do not have a BMW now but I have had a 2002 in the past. I love cars and I have owned an 1976 Alfa Romeo Spider, one of the old German made 1973 Mercury Capri's w/ 2.8L v6 (that car was fun although pretty ugly) and I currently own a 67 Camaro RS/SS (it throws you back in your seat when you step on the gas but handles terrible). I am looking to get a good handling, quick daily driver. I am also looking to join the club and participate in some of the events. I was debating between the 325 & 328 (i or is)with the sport package but i picked up the latest Bimmer mag and I got excited about the M3 article. Is and M3 overkill as a daily driver? I also have a budget of about $16000 so were talking E36 or E46 for the 325 & 328 or E36 for the M3.

| What does overkill mean? The E36 M3 in stock form is a comfortable ride. Its not over powered by any means. Easy to drive on the street too. However, they are getting old, and most stock cars will be in need of shocks, bushings, cooling systems, etc to be reliable and comfortable. All those things might be tough with 16 grand. If it were me, i would buy and nice E36 328 (way under budget) and spend the rest on refreshing.

| If you are going to participate in the high performance driving schools you should really consider the e36M3. I have had mine for 7 years and have used it as a daily driver and track car. It's a fanstastic car for both, and can even handle the snow just fine with a good set of snow tires. You don't need an M3 for driving schools, but it is a model that a lot of track junkies prefer. There are also tons of aftermarket performance stuff that you can do to it if you want. My M3 has been great - I absolutely love it. Just be sure to get one that hasn't been abused and be sure to get it checked out thouroughly by a shop that knows BMWs well before you buy it.

| I just picked up an E36 (1993 325IS) exactly a week ago and i love it. It was very well taken care of. The previous owner had replaced the shocks struts, everything in the cooling system except the radiator, and he told me exactly what i will need to do in the future. He also gave me rear shock mounts which need to be replaced. I work at BMW Norwell and i had a tech look at it for me and he said that i will have to replace the rear shock mounts and everything that the previous owner said i would. I would try to find an E36 but make sure you buy it from a private party and the guy has all receipts and gives you the assurance that your not buying a bimmer that will break down in 3 months. Get an E36. I love mine its awesome.

| How about an e46 M3? I want a BMW 330 and have tossed the M3 idea aside because I figured it would be kind of overkill on the street. People said the STI would be an awesome street car, but it was bad enough for me to get rid of it.
