It appears that NER SCCA has the green light to begin development of the Palmer Motorsports Park out in western Mass.  Estimated completion date is 2010.

I recall that the intention of this track was to provide SCCA racers with a less costly alternative to NHIS and Lime Rock.  Has anyone heard if the SCCA will be renting the track to other clubs?  If they are renting it out, does it appear that it will be a cheaper venue to run at than NHIS?

Palmer was discussed by the Driving Events Committee. I believe that the SCCA is not yet discussing rentals with clubs, but the hope is that rental days will be available for 2009. As I understand it, there may be SCCA days at Palmer in 2008.

Certainly Boston is aware of, and excited by, the deveopment of Palmer. Speaking for myself:

  • Lime Rock is expensive and there aren't many days available.
  • NHMS looks solid for the short run, but with different ownership, there is always the fear that the road course might be elminated to make more seating for the oval
  • The Valley Motorsport Park in Tamworth, NH seems to be making very slow progress.

So, having Palmer will be great for Boston-area track junkies.

Is this new park going to have a road course, or will it be strictly an autocross facillity?

Ah, to dream...

Given all the local discussion about track noise, I think we'll sooner see a casino in Palmer than a good (or even mediocre) track facility. If it did happen (and I do fully support it), I'd be a fixture there. It's about 20 minutes from me, and would be less than two minutes from my sister-in-law.
