| I usually love Boston Events, but track time at the last BAB was in the rip-off category. I realize that it's hard now with the 30 car limit, and I keep hearing that it doesn't work financially without the racers.
I'd be tempted to believe all of this, except that I attended LCMT events with audi, COM, and bmw quebec last year and got substantially more track time for less money with all three groups. Track time, for less money, was between 1.5X and 2X.
I'm planning to switch to racing this year, so it's moot, but I wouldn't go to BAB for the DE again unless something changed.
As a side-note. The cars-on-track limitation comes from the people who vote in the town. The people who vote in the town do not own Disney-Land-On-The-Hill. They own local businesses. Why we don't encourage patronizing the local businesses instead of Disneyland is beyond me. Other clubs seem to understand this issue. I understand that some board members are comped at Disneyland. I'm sure that this couldn't have an effect, but the appearance is there.
I was really happy with every other Boston event I attended, but this is supposed to be the premiere event.

As a board member, I just looked into this. There are free rooms associated with the hotel choice at Mt Tremblant, and these are used to house the Race Stewards whose room expenses are paid by the hosting chapter. The club would have had to pay for these rooms, and the comp'd rooms save the chapter money. The benefit to the membership is that the club can offer discounted rooms to those that want them. And of course you can stay elsewhere if you prefer. |

OK. Thanks! This is a very reasonable way to spend the comped rooms which does avoid any appearance or hint of impropriety.
I still question whether this is the best way to make points with the voting citizens who are materially impacting our track time by limiting cars on the track. I'd rather pay for a few race stewards rooms than have track time limited. Obviously encouraging people to stay and eat and otherwise spend money in the village wouldn't immediately change the situation, but every little bit helps. This is something the montreal club is very aware of and pro-active with.
As a side note, the discounted rooms at disneyland are significantly more expensive than non-discounted rooms closer to the track. |

| | As I understand it, the politics at Mt Tremblant are complicated. I have friends whose parents live about 10 miles or so from the track, and you can hear the cars running. As I understand it, the locals don't care for the track because it generates relatively little business for the irritation that it causes (compared the the ski busines, which generates a ton of business and jobs and is off by itself). I also suspect that a lot of locals ski and few drive at the track. I've also been told that there are a few wealthy / influential homeowners that are important in this conflict. It's worth pointing out that the track has been cooperative with us; the problems stem from the local government. My point is that while I believe in voting with my dollars, I'm not sure that moving the event hotel away form Disneyland (i.e. the ski mountain) would have any impact on the politics. I'd guess that any effect would be slight. I'm not opposed to do so for other reasons (cost, convenience, better function facility, whatever). If the town raises the limit from 30 to 40 cars at a time, that would help quite a bit, although it might mean having to sell out the racers at 40 cars (unpopular) or run two groups (wasteful unless we get 80-ish racers). |
