I'll keep an eye out and introduce myself to you as well!

RE: Course rules? Typically Steve Hazard does the walk thru. Despite autoxing for 4 years already, I usually go on the novice walkthrough myself because Steve usually really breaks down each turn and it's beneficial to everyone. Also there is usually a "novice cone school" after the drivers meeting. All it is is someone (usually Steve) with a cone showing what constitutes a cone penalty and what doesn't.
Just read what you can on the website and the Tirerack article on what an autocross is like. I learned the most about how to read the course and a lot of that type of stuff on my first day. Don't be afraid to ask questions. You will find that almost all of the drivers will be more than happy to help you out. You can always ask me. I'll be the one with the White Camaro and black wheels (should be the only one ;) )

RE: Course rules? I've watched some videos on YouTube of some of the events at Devens, but am looking for a better understanding of the on-track rules to follow, ie:

what certain cones mean:

You either have gates, (2 or more cones that you drive between), or single cones (slaloms) which you alternate sides on. Slaloms can be mandatory on which side to enter on(pointer cone used show which side)

Or they can be open to run on either side.

what to look for:

2-3 gates ahead if possible

what will disqualify a run,

Driving to fast after the finish, etc

"Off course" is when you miss a gate, go on the wrong side of a slalom cone, or just get plain lost during your run.

best way to remember the course, etc:

I do the Novice Drivers walk thrus so I'll answer that on the 27th

Any help an pointers are appreciated, and I'll be there at 7am sharp to get the most out of the day!

Drivers walk thru.

Also you can read these:

http://www.tirerack.com/features/solo2/handbook.htm

http://www.tunnellracing.com/advice.html

HTH!

Steve

Instructor Chair

Course rules?
