Hi,

I've been in this position once before where I somehow screwed up the electrical operation of the convertible roof.  Now, the motors are not engaged / not operating.  (Note - I did not pull that release arm under the driver's rear seat).

Can you tell me the process to resetting or re-engaging the electrical motors?  I won't loose the directions this time.

Thanks,

Jay Pilkington

If you send it to my attention, Jay Pilkington, at 866-401-1512 that would be excellent.

I actually have some directions whereby I put the top in it's compartment, then switch the ignition to a certain position while holding the "close" button for the roof for 10 seconds...  I'm embarrassed to say that one of the things making this difficult, to know if I'm doing it right, is the directions say, "Turn ignition lock into "0" setting", move convert top switch to "open"..., Turn ignition lock into "R" (radio setting) setting.

I don't know which positions "0" or "R" are?  My manual shows positions 0, 1,2 and 3.

Jay,

Before I send the lengthy FAX:

0 = Off

1 or R = Radio

2 = Run

3 = Start

Let me know if that works.

Thanks Mike.  I'd say to hold off faxing.  I'm doing the proper steps, with the proper key positions, and there's not movement in the motors.  Checked fuses and they're okay.  Must be the switch.

If you suspect anything I might check / consider, please feel free to share.  Otherwise, I'll chase the power roof switch.

Thanks,

Jay

Mike, or anybody...

I can't figure out what's going wrong with my power convertible roof on my 95 325i.  It's never had a problem.  However, now, it's completely dead.

I started putting the top down 10 days ago and something went wrong during that operation; not sure what.  I recall having an issue whereby I started to manually put the windows down instead of letting the roof procedure do it - and that mucked things up.  I had someone at AAA walk me through the re-engagement process and everything was okay.

Now, I believe I interupted the roof procedure again (I know, I'm stupid) and the re-engagement process is not working.  I checked the fuses to the power roof and all three are fine.

Can anyone think of something for me to try?

Thanks,

Jay

Jay,

These roofs are complicated. Lots of switches to trip before one thing or another happens etc. Also, if things are out of sequence, you won't really know the status w/out a service tester that can perform test cycles. You really should have somebody look at it.
