| | I have a fairly loud engine ticking noise most of the time in my 2007 328cic. I have listened to a friend's 2007 528 and heard it as well. Dealership says it is normal, due to the vanos. Is it? Thanks. Andy |

| Ticking noises on forums are hard to hear.
We haven't heard too many VANOS units tick on these engines. I would evaluate the serpentine belt idler pulleys & the power steering pump. Your mechanic should be using a stethoscope w/ a long hollow needle end to isolate the tick, otherwise the sound reflects about in the engine bay making it appear like it's coming from everywhere.
