Welcome to the home page for the 2005 Boston Chapter Autocross Series.
The 2005 Autocross Series is open to Boston Chapter BMW CCA members. If you are
not a member of the Boston Chapter BMW CCA, you may
join for only $40 per year. If you are a BMW CCA member, you may add the Boston
Chapter to your current membership.
Drivers who do not show up for events or who don't follow the
rules may be banned from the Autocross Series.
Please read these instructions carefully, even if you are a Boston Chapter Autocross
veteran. There are some important rule changes for 2005.
Summary of 2005 Changes
The changes for the 2005 season include event format, registration, event management,
and tech changes.
Event Format
Due to a variety of reasons, most importantly safety, we will be running only ONE
course this year. Registration will be limited to 95 cars: 62 BMWs and 33 Non-BMWs.
Registration
There is a new registration policy for this year. We will be running registration
much more like a Driving School. You must register for each event separately.
Payment for each event will
be made within 3 days of registration. There will be no refunds
under any circumstances.
If a driver can not make an event and contacts the registrar at least five days
in advance they will not be Red Listed. After a second time on the Red List,
the driver will be not allowed to register for a Boston Chapter Autocross event
for four (4) events, including going into the following year's season.
The message should be clear: only register if you're absolutely positive you'll
be there. For more information, please see Eligibility
and Registration.
Inspection and Modifications Form
All participants in the Boston Chapter CCA Autocross Series who
intend to compete for a season trophy in a BMW class will need to complete an Inspection
and Modifications Form (IMF). The IMF is turned in during Tech at
the first event of the season. The IMF accomplishes a number of objectives. It gives
the committee an exact account of all modifications for the record, it allows for
future classification data, and it will result in a tech inspection sticker that
will be good for the entire 2005 season (in most cases).
If you are a casual autocrosser, first timer, or just trying it out, no IMF is required.
You will need to have your car teched before running in each event and you will
not be eligible for the season championship.
One way to get an IMF is to simply print the
self classification results when you finish that process. Another way is to
download, print, and fill out the hardcopy IMF. In the case of any discrepancies,
the hardcopy IMF will be the one Tech uses for class verification.
The Inspection and Modifications Form can be downloaded in
DOC (188k) or PDF (45k) format.
Event Management
The goal is to have a new course every two events, while reversing direction each
event. Driver's meeting is at 8:30 am sharp. Strict scheduling is required if we
are to run more cars per course than last year.
Split run groups will be the format for 2005. This format allows for two off-times
per driver (neither running nor working). There are no lunch breaks under
this format. Please plan accordingly.
Tech Inspections
Continued for 2005: There is a new format this year for Tech. Every driver will
have a choice. New or casual competitors in either BMWs or other makes will be able
to tech as usual.
If a BMW driver wishes to qualify for the season's championship within their respective
classes, they will need to complete a Inspection and Modifications Form (IMF).
The IMF will need to be completed and brought to the first event. The IMF includes
a full disclosure of modifications, a calculation of points, and intended autocross
class.
Autocross staff will give the car a tech inspection, successful completion of which
will result in a 2005 Tech Sticker. After you have your 2005 Tech Sticker,
no further tech inspection will be needed for the season. The only exception will
be cars running R-compound tires which will require a wheel bearing check each event.
Non-BMW drivers may also have a 2005 Tech Sticker, but no IMF form is required.
Note: all drivers must still use the self-classification
page to determine their class while registering. The IMF is simply our way
of confirming and recording this data for the more serious competitors.
Meanwhile, if you're a casual autocrosser, perhaps a first timer who just wants
to come out and have a bit of fun and try the sport, simply complete the
self-classification, register, and show up. We'll perform a safety inspection
and you'll be ready to go. Welcome!
Schedule
The 2005 schedule includes eight Timed Events, one Test
and Tune event, and an Evolution School.
Because there are 8 events in the season, you will have to get points in at least
5 events to qualify for a trophy.
